Black Electric Double Caravan Step
This black electric double caravan step gives you two comfortable steps up to your caravan door and saves you having to pull the steps out by hand every time you stop.
It runs from your caravan's 12V system and uses a 45W motor to extend and retract the steps. The double-step design helps reduce the height of each step, which makes getting in and out of the van easier, especially on caravans that sit higher off the ground.
Electric operation
The step can be operated using the supplied rocker switch. It also comes with a door sensor, which can be set up so the step extends when the caravan door opens and retracts again when the door closes.
The wiring harness and 20A fuse are included as part of the electrical setup. As this is an electric step, it needs a working 12V power supply for the motor to operate.
If you prefer a manual step without a motor or wiring, you can also have a look at our manual double caravan step.
Two wide steps
The two aluminium treads have a ribbed non-slip surface to give you better grip when stepping in and out of the van. The step has a maximum static load rating of 200 kg.
Having two steps instead of one gives you a more comfortable climb to the caravan door. It can be particularly handy on vans where the doorway sits a fair way off the ground.
If you want a bit of extra support near the doorway, a caravan grab handle can also be fitted nearby.
Dimensions
Before ordering, check the dimension drawings in the product photos and measure the available space under your caravan door.
- Overall width: approximately 540 mm
- Open projection: approximately 693 mm
- Overall drop when open: approximately 324 mm
- Folded projection: approximately 371 mm
- Folded height: approximately 280 mm
The mounting rails have both round and slotted holes, which gives some adjustment when lining the step up with the mounting point. The holes are designed to suit 12 mm bolts.
Installation
This step needs to be securely mounted underneath the caravan doorway and connected to the caravan's 12V electrical system. Because it involves both structural mounting and electrical wiring, we recommend having it installed by a caravan repairer, installer or auto electrician.
The installer should also check that there is enough room for the step to fully extend and retract without hitting the chassis, suspension, plumbing or anything else underneath the van.
Check the fit before ordering
Caravan chassis and doorway setups can vary, so this isn't a universal fit for every van. Measure your available mounting area and compare it with the drawings before ordering.
Pay particular attention to the overall width, the space needed when the step is folded, and how far it extends when open. If you're unsure whether it will fit your caravan, contact us before ordering and we'll help you check the measurements.
Looking after your electric step
Keep the step clean and remove any mud, sand or road grime from the moving parts after travelling. Check the mounting bolts and wiring connections from time to time, and avoid spraying high-pressure water directly at the motor or electrical components.
The step comes with a 1-year RV Essentials warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will this step fit my caravan?
It suits a wide range of caravans and motorhomes, but it isn't a fit-anything step. Measure where you want it to go and check it against the drawings first. As a guide it's about 540 mm wide, reaches around 693 mm when open, and folds to about 371 mm out by 280 mm high. You'll also need somewhere to run the 12V wiring. If you're not sure, send us a message and we'll help.
Is it 12V?
Yes. It runs off your caravan's 12V DC system and draws a rated 45W. It comes with the wiring harness and a 20A fuse to protect the circuit.
Does it come out on its own when I open the door?
It does. There's a door sensor supplied, so the step extends when you open the door and retracts when you close it. There's also a rocker switch, so you can put it out or bring it in whenever you like without using the door.
What happens if I lose power or the motor stops?
You can retract the step by hand. That way you're never left with the steps hanging out when it's time to pack up and drive off.
How much weight can it hold?
It's rated to a maximum static load of 200 kg, so there's plenty of room for adults and gear. Step on and off steadily rather than jumping onto it.
What's it made of?
The treads are aluminium with a ribbed non-slip surface, and the folding frame is steel finished in powder-coated black.
Do I need an auto electrician to fit it?
Because it wires into your 12V system and uses a door sensor, we recommend having it fitted by an auto electrician or a caravan technician. They'll mount it to a solid point, run the wiring with the fuse in place, and set up the sensor properly.
What fuse does it use?
A 20A fuse, which is supplied. It protects the circuit and should always be in place when the step is wired in.
What are the open and folded sizes?
Open, it reaches about 693 mm out with a total drop of roughly 324 mm across the two treads. Folded, it's about 371 mm out and 280 mm high, and the overall width is around 540 mm. The dimension drawings in the images show the lot.
Can I drive with the steps out?
No. Always make sure the steps are fully retracted before you move the van. With the door sensor set up they'll pull in when you close the door, and you can double-check with the switch.
How do I choose between an electric and a manual step?
An electric step saves you bending down every time, and the door sensor means it's ready when you are. A manual step is simpler and has nothing to wire in. If you'd prefer to keep it basic, take a look at our manual double caravan step.
Does it need much maintenance?
Not really. Rinse off dust and salt after trips, keep the moving joints clean, and check the mounting bolts and wiring connections now and then. That's about it.
Are the treads slippery when wet?
The aluminium treads have a ribbed non-slip surface, so you keep grip in the rain, in the dark or with muddy boots.
Does it come with a warranty?
Yes, it's backed by a 1-year RV Essentials warranty.
